Chiyo is sold from her family at age nine to move away from her fishing town home of Yoroido, Japan. 

She travels on a train with her sister, Satsu, uninformed of their destination 

Chiyo is sent to live in the Gion Geisha district of Kyoto, Japan 

After months of pain and sorrow, Chiyo find happiness because of her confrontation with the Chairman 

Sayuri works to become a Geisha with the help of Mameha. 

After many years, Sayuri reunites with the Chairman at a Sumo Wrestling match. 

Sayuri spends time with the Chairman at a party to celebrate the blossoming of the Cherry Blossoms in Kyoto. 

During World War II, Nobu helps Sayuri find safety sewing parachutes 

Soon after the war ends, Sayuri becomes a geisha once again and is invited along a trip to an island with Iwarma Electric on an airplane. This is where she comes up with her plan to go against Nobu. 

After having the Chairman as her Danna Sayuri moves to New York City where she tells her story
